YOU WILL NEED:
Towelling fabric (or store bought/old towels)
Elastic (for the upper bust)
Matching thread
NOTES
Seam allowance is 1 cm unless otherwise stated.
Measure your elastic around your upper bust where the top will sit - snug but comfortable.
This top is designed for towelling fabric.
If using cotton or lighter fabrics, you’ll need to double fold your hems for a clean finish.
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
Step #1
Measure your bust.
Step #2
Using your bust measurement, cut 2 rectangles.
For the length:Decide how long you want your top (I made mine 22 cm) and add your hem allowance if needed.
Your rectangles = bust measurement × desired length
Step #3
Finish all raw edges using an overlocker or a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine.
Step #4
Join:
With right sides together, sew the short sides to create a loop.
Step #5
Create elastic channel:
Fold the top edge down by 3 cm and sew close to the edge to create a channel.
Leave a 4 cm gap at the back to thread the elastic through.
Step #6
Add elastic:
Thread the elastic through the channel.
Wrap it around your upper bust to check the fit, then:
Overlap the ends
Secure with a zigzag stitch (sew forward and back a few times)
Close the 4 cm gap with a straight stitch.
Step #7
Hem (if needed):
If your fabric requires it, fold the bottom edge 1 cm and stitch to hem.
(If using towelling, you can use the natural hem and skip this step.)
AND YOU'RE DONE ✨
A simple, flattering top you can make again and again.
